Breakfast, Baseball, Beach & BBQ

This morning, we woke up and walked to The Mission, a super delicious and popular breakfast place right near Petco Park.

My breakfast: chilaquiles. And hairs of the dogs. Sort of.

Aaand the reason we got breakfast near Petco Park was because we were GOING THERE!!!

Petco is pretty cool. When you walk in, it's very open and you're down on field level and then have to make your way over to your seats. At least that's how it was where we walked in. I like this park.

This building was declared a historic landmark in 1978, and so, when Petco Park was built, it was determined that the facade of the building could not be demolished and had to be built into the park itself. We walked through to get to our seats.

It was Military Appreciation Day -- a salute to the troops before the game.

We left the game (yeah, the Yankees lost -- 6-3) and headed over to the bay to catch the ferry to Coronado.

On da ferry

When we got to Coronado, we went into another art gallery. This one was more focused on Dr. Seuss artwork but also had some Chuck Jones. The reason that Dr. Seuss is all over the place in San Diego is that he actually lived in La Jolla, which is just north of San Diego proper and is actually where Jordan and I are headed tomorrow.

As we walked across Coronado towards the beach, we heard music and found that a military band was playing at Spreckels Park. This was really cool and I wish we had known it was going on -- I would've tried to get us there sooner. People had packed picnics and drinks and chairs and were just relaxing and having fun.

This is my second time here and I honestly don't know if I've ever been to a more beautiful beach.

Jordan's first time touching the Pacific!

We tried playing with the panorama feature on Jordan's phone while I ran across the beach. There I am on the left standing and also on the right running. Experiment completed.

Hotel Coronado

We walked over to the Coronado Brewing Company and shared a sampler.

We then took the last ferry back across to the mainland...

...where we discovered that a place called Kansas City Barbeque was still open. And it was a good thing -- we hadn't eaten much of anything since breakfast!

Unbeknownst to us upon choosing this restaurant (Jordan just wanted BBQ, and the decision was made based on the name of the place), the "sleazy bar scene" in Top Gun was shot at this restaurant. So, there was lots of Top Gun stuff everywhere.

We had some surprisingly decent barbecue and then headed back to the hostel to get some rest. We have to be up early tomorrow!
