Onward! To Portland

Yesterday, we had lunch with David and Anne at McMenamin's and hit the road for Portland.

On our way out of Eugene, we stopped at the McKenzie River to take in the scenery and skip some rocks.

Jordan also took me to Dutch Bros. Coffee. Really super awesome.

Pitstop at Willamette Vineyards

We arrived in Portland, checked into our hotel and headed out to see what the night had to offer on our side of the Willamette River.

This is the first place we stumbled upon and I was so excited! If you are not familiar with H.P. Lovecraft, he was a horror fiction writer whose work has remained influential through today. One film that you may know which is based on his work is "The Re-Animator".

At The Green Dragon.

We played pool at a bar modeled after Morrison Hotel (The Doors album).

And then, since we hadn't eaten and it was really late, this happened. That taco on the right is "lengua" (translation: tongue).

We got up this morning and headed out across the Willamette.

Cable cars are such a big thing up here in the Pacific Northwest! Lots of people think all the intersecting cables are ugly. Maybe they're right. But I think it's really cool.

Chinatown in Portland! Who knew?

Powell's Books -- a HUGE bookstore that we spent at least an hour in and walked out with some really good stuff!

Lunch at Deschutes Brewery

The 4-T Trail. This involved utilizing Portland's transit system, as well as our legs. We rode the Trolley and Tram, hiked a Trail and then rode the Train. Get it? 4-T.

This is the tram which mainly serves to help medical staff commute up to the hospital at the top of the hill. It's a nice (but really short) ride and affords pretty views. It is also a necessary portion of the 4-T Trail, if you're doing that, which we were.

HUGE SLUG

We got back down into the city from our hike up above, cleaned up and headed out into the night.

Haha. I don't really get it but it's funny.

Not a very good picture (it was dark), but these are frog legs! And they were good!

Big Buck Hunter badass

Around midnight, we went to Voodoo Doughnuts -- a "must" in Portland. We are waiting in line behind all these people in this picture. It didn't take too long, though.

Maple bacon bar and a jelly-filled voodoo doughnut (see the pretzel stick in its chest…like a voodoo doll?). SO GOOD.

Doughnuts + Bacon + Bed = Goodnight, Irene!
